U.S. Census Bureau Report Holds Encouraging News for Authors and Publishers
In spite of a stagnant economy bookstore sales rose by 3.8% in June, hitting $1.04 billion, according to estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau. June performance numbers helped to put 2012 bookstore sales slightly ahead of sales at the half-way point of 2011, with sales up 0.6%, to $6.98 billion. Sales results were from retailers where books are at least 50% of sales.
June sales were up 3.0% for the entire retail segment, while sales for the first six months grew 6.3%.
